Celazole® PBI

The World’s Highest Performing Thermoplastic

Polymics,®Ltd. offers the world’s highest performing engineering thermoplastic – Celazole® PBI. Celazole® PBI has the highest heat resistance, wear resistance, strength and mechanical property retention of any engineered polymer on the planet. Parts made of Celazole® PBI are used in some of the harshest environments ranging from the oilfield to aerospace to semiconductor applications.

The ideal performance polymer for applications in demanding conditions — high temperatures, harsh chemicals, plasma environments and applications where high strength and wear resistance are important. In temperatures exceeding 400°F, Celazole® PBI has the highest heat resistance, wear resistance, strength and mechanical property retention of any engineered polymer on the planet.

Celazole® PBI (polybenzimidazole) is a fully aromatic heterocyclic thermoplastic polymer that provides the ultimate in thermal mechanical properties and sets the standard for engineering polymer performance.  Characterized by its 427°C glass transition temperature, high strength and broad chemical resistance, it’s meant for use in extreme environments.

PBI powder can be compression molded to produce the highest performing base grade – U-60 shapes for machining into PBI parts.  Compounds of PBI with polyaryletherketones either (PEEK or PEKK) are offered as T-Series pellets for injection molding and extrusion.  Solutions of PBI are offered for producing hollow fiber membranes and flat sheet membranes, and for casting films or coating metal.

Compare PBI polymer with other engineering polymers and see why PBI outperforms polyimides, polyamideimides and polyketones. By offering both Celazole® U-Series and Celazole® T-Series along with our extensive industry expertise and manufacturing capabilities, we are able to work with customers to develop custom solutions geared toward their specific applications.

Benefits of Celazole® PBI

Celazole® PBI High Heat Resistance, Wear, Strength

Best mechanical properties of any plastic at high temperatures (400°F - 800°F) (204°C - 425° C)

Celazole® PBI High Heat Resistance, Wear, Strength

No noticeable changes in strength or appearance after 200 megarad exposure to Cobalt 60 gamma radiation

based on tests conducted in air at room temperature

Celazole® PBI High Heat Resistance, Wear, Strength

Broadly resistant to hydrocarbons, alcohols, weak acids, weak bases, hydrogen sulfide, chlorinated solvents, oils, heat transfer fluids, and many other organic chemicals

Celazole® PBI High Heat Resistance, Wear, Strength

Performs better in harsh conditions than other high-performance materials including PEI, PI, PAI, PEEK, and PPS
